Sequenze: Italian language through contemporary film

November 9, 2016 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

Elisa Dossena, Lecturer of Italian, will demonstrate, through specific examples of teaching strategies, how students can acquire, strengthen, and consolidate their ability to understand and produce in the target language, increasing at the same time their cultural and intercultural competence.

Sequenze, by Elisa Dossena and Silvia Dupont, is an intermediate-advanced level textbook that teaches Italian through contemporary films. Why films? First, because a film contains a plurality of codes—linguistic, visual, iconic, musical, etc.—that offer students of foreign languages unique tools to enrich their competence in the target language and culture. Second, because in a film linguistic patterns are inserted in a narrative context that renders the learning process more motivating for students.

There will be a small reception after the presentation.
